Configuring your SMART interactive product

You can use SMART Settings to access and change settings for pens, buttons, video arrangement, and more. The specific settings you can change depend on your SMART interactive product.

Opening SMART hardware settings

ClosedTo open SMART hardware settings

  1. Press the SMART Board iconSMART Board icon in the notification area, and then select SMART Settings.

    Note 

    If your computer isn’t currently connected to a SMART interactive product, the SMART Board icon includes an X in its lower-right cornerSMART Board icon with X.

  2. Press SMART Hardware Settings.

    If your computer is connected to more than one SMART interactive product, the upper area of the SMART Settings window displays an image for each SMART interactive product. Press the image of the SMART interactive product you want to change settings for.

Changing pen, eraser and button settings

You can change the pen, eraser and button settings for your SMART interactive product.

ClosedTo change pen settings

  1. Open SMART hardware settings (see Opening SMART hardware settings).

  2. Select Pen and Button Settings in the drop-down list.

  3. Press the button for the pen or Color Select button you want to customize.

    The Properties dialog box appears.

  4. Press Line Style.

  5. Adjust the color, thickness, line end and line style.

    Tip 

    When choosing a color, you can press the eyedropperEyedropper icon to select a color on the screen.

  6. Press Fill Effects.

  7. Adjust the transparency.

  8. Press Save Tool Properties.

  9. Repeat steps 3 to 8 if you want to customize other pens or Color Select buttons.

  10. Optionally, select the Use Calligraphic Ink check box to smooth your handwriting and make it easier to read on screen.

  11. Press OK.

  2. Select Pen and Button Settings in the drop-down list.

  3. Press the eraser button.

  4. Select an eraser size.

  5. Press OK.

  6. Press OK.

  6. Repeat steps 3 to 8 if you want to customize other buttons.

  7. Press OK.

Changing the orientation level

You can change the precision of the orientation procedure. If you’re using an application that requires precise control, you can select a precise orientation. However, if you want to configure the SMART interactive product as quickly as possible, you can select a quicker orientation process.

  1. Open SMART hardware settings (see Opening SMART hardware settings).

  2. Select Orientation/Alignment Settings in the drop-down list.

  3. Select the orientation precision level you want.

    • The Quick orientation uses 4 alignment points and is suitable for most purposes. You can perform a Quick orientation to reorient the interactive product with minimal interruption.

    • The Standard orientation uses 9 alignment points and provides a slightly higher level of accuracy.

    • The Wide orientation uses 12 alignment points and is suitable for wide-screen products.

    • The Fine orientation uses 20 alignment points.

    Note 

    Some orientation levels are not available on all SMART interactive products.

  4. Press OK.

Enabling Non-Projected mode

If you don’t have a projector for your SMART Board 600 series interactive whiteboard, you can use your interactive whiteboard in Non-Projected mode. You can write on the interactive whiteboard in Non-Projected mode with dry-erase markers and save your notes.

Caution 

Check your interactive whiteboard’s installation guide for more information before writing on it with dry-erase markers. For example, don’t write on an interactive whiteboard if it has an OptiPro surface. OptiPro surfaces are optimized for use with Projected mode.

ClosedTo enable Non-Projected mode

  1. Open SMART hardware settings (see Opening SMART hardware settings).

  2. Select Orientation/Alignment Settings in the drop-down list.

  3. Select Non-Projected (Whiteboard Mode).

    Note 

    Alternatively, select Projected (Mouse Mode) to disable Non-Projected mode.

  4. Press OK.

Changing mouse and gesture settings

Your SMART interactive product is an input device like a mouse or touch pad. You can change your SMART interactive product’s mouse and gesture settings to better suit how you and other users use your SMART interactive product.

  1. Open SMART hardware settings (see Opening SMART hardware settings).

  2. Select Mouse and Gesture Settings in the drop-down list.

  3. Select check boxes to enable features:

    Check box

    Select this check box to

    Enable Mouse Assist

    Enable Mouse Assist, which determines the location of a window’s Close button, scroll bars, resize handles and Help buttons, and makes it easier for you to press them.

    Enable Hover

    Perform some functions without touching the screen. For example, you can hover over an icon to display a description of the icon.

    Multitouch Mode

    Allow more than one person to touch the SMART interactive product at the same time.

    Enable Multitouch Gestures

    Enable multitouch gestures.

    Enable Single-Touch Gestures

    Enable single-touch gestures.

    Enable Pop-Up Messages

    Display pop-up messages, such as the right-click and Restore Writing messages.

    Enable Touch Recognition

    Enable Touch Recognition, which enables you to pick up a pen, and then write, select or erase without replacing the pen.

    Note 

  4. Optionally, press Configure double-click, pen and touch settings to change your operating system’s double-click, pen and touch settings.

  5. Press OK.

Arranging multiple SMART interactive products

You can connect multiple SMART interactive products to one computer. You can split the computer’s display over two or more SMART interactive products, or you can view some programs and windows on one SMART interactive product and other programs and windows on another SMART interactive product.

If you’re splitting or stretching a computer display across multiple SMART interactive products, you must change SMART hardware settings appropriately.

ClosedTo arrange multiple SMART interactive products

  1. Open SMART hardware settings (see Opening SMART hardware settings).

  2. Select Arrange Video Output in the drop-down list.

  3. Select Override video output arrangement.

    Note 

    Alternatively, clear Override video output arrangement to disable the option.

  4. Type the number of columns you want to use in the video output arrangement in the Columns box.

  5. Type the number of rows you want to use in the video output arrangement in the Rows box.

  6. Press OK.

  7. Enable Multitouch mode (see Changing mouse and gesture settings).

  8. Orient each SMART interactive product (see Orienting your SMART interactive product).

Changing the axis of your SMART interactive product

Important 

Complete the procedure below only if asked to do so by SMART Support.

You can edit SMART hardware settings to change your SMART interactive product’s axis. When you change the axis, the orientation of your SMART interactive product changes from horizontal (landscape) to vertical (portrait) mode or vice versa.

Note 

You may also need screen-rotation software to rotate the portrait image so that it fits correctly on the screen.

ClosedTo change the axis

  1. Open SMART hardware settings (see Opening SMART hardware settings).

  2. Select Advanced Settings in the drop-down list.

  3. Select an axis setting in the Board Axis Settings area.

  4. Press OK.

Viewing hardware information and settings

You can view SMART hardware information and settings, including serial numbers and firmware versions.

  2. Select Hardware Info & Settings in the drop-down list.

    Information and settings for your SMART hardware appear.

  3. Press OK.
