Writing or Drawing Using Floating Tools

You can use the Pen tool in the Floating Tools toolbar to write or draw in digital ink.

NOTE: Alternatively, write or draw on an interactive product using a pen tray pen (on interactive whiteboards) or tethered pen and pen tool button (on interactive pen displays).

To write or draw with Floating Tools

NOTE: You can customize the Floating Tools toolbar by adding and removing tools. For the following steps, the Floating Tools toolbar must include a Pen button. You can include more than one Pen button in the Floating Tools.

  1. Press Pen in the Floating Tools toolbar.

  2. Write or draw on the interactive screen.

NOTES

If a program is Ink Aware (that is, it's integrated with SMART Notebook), whatever you write or draw on the interactive product becomes a component of the program file.

f a program is non-Aware, whatever you write or draw on the interactive product appears on a transparent layer over the current program.

If you insert your notes into an integrated program, you can save your notes in the program. As an alternative, you can take a screen capture of your notes and the program at any time using the Capture toolbar. Each screen capture appears as an image in a .notebook file.

  1. When you finish writing and drawing, press Select in the Floating Tools toolbar. Otherwise, SMART Notebook interprets screen touches as pen strokes.

To customize the Pen floating tool

  1. Press Pen in the Floating Tools toolbar, and then press Customize .

The Properties dialog box appears.

  1. Press Fill Effects.

  2. Drag the slider to change the digital ink's transparency.

  3. Press Line Style.

  4. Select the color, thickness, style and line endings.

  5. Press Save Tool Properties.

NOTE: Changes that you make to the Floating Tools Pen tool don't affect the behavior of pen tray pens.
