Getting started with your SMART Board 500 or 600 series interactive whiteboard

Using your SMART Board 500 or 600 series interactive whiteboard, you can write, draw and erase digital ink, manipulate objects and browse content on the screen.

Writing, drawing and erasing digital ink

Using the pens and eraser in your interactive whiteboard pen tray, you can write or draw digital ink over SMART Notebook software and other programs.

If you have a SMART Board D600 series interactive whiteboard, you can write, draw or erase digital ink while in Dual-User mode.

To write or draw digital ink

1. Pick up a pen from the pen tray.

2. Write or draw on the screen.

   Tip 

   Don’t rest your elbow or the palm of your hand on the screen while you’re writing.

To write or draw digital ink in Dual-User mode

1. For the left side of the screen, pick up the black or red pen tray pen.

   OR

   For the right side of the screen, pick up the blue or green pen tray pen.

2. Write or draw on your half of the screen.

To erase digital ink

To erase digital ink in Dual-User mode 

1. For the left side of the screen, ensure that the black and red pen tray pens are in the pen tray.

   OR

   For the right side of the screen, ensure that the blue and green pen tray pens are in the pen tray.

2. Pick up the eraser, press it on the screen, and then move it over the digital ink you want to erase.

Manipulating objects

Objects include icons, buttons, links and other components of programs that appear on your screen. You can manipulate these objects using your interactive whiteboard as described below.

To select or clear the selection of an object

To double-click an object

To right-click an object

To move an object

1. Press and hold the object.

2. Keeping your finger on the screen, slowly move the object.

3. When you reach the position you want to move the object to, release your finger.

Browsing

In addition to manipulating objects, you can browse content on your screen.
