Getting started with your SMART Slate wireless slate

Using your SMART Slate wireless slate, you can write, draw and erase digital ink, and manipulate objects.

Writing, drawing and erasing digital ink

Using the wireless slate pen, you can write or draw digital ink.

Note 

How the digital ink you write or draw over a program is included in that program depends on how it integrates with SMART Ink. For more information, see Converting handwriting to text.

To write or draw digital ink

  1. Press and hold the pen’s lower rocker switch.

  2. Write or draw on the slate using the pen.

To erase digital ink

  1. Turn the pen upside down.

  2. Slide the eraser end of the pen across the slate.

Manipulating objects

Objects include icons, buttons, links and other components of programs that appear on your screen. You can manipulate these objects using your wireless slate as described below.

To select or clear the selection of an object

  1. Move the pen a few millimeters above the surface of the slate to move the pointer on your display.

  2. When the pointer is where you want it, touch the pen to the surface of the slate.

    Notes 

    • This gesture performs a standard mouse click.

    • This gesture starts programs if your operating system is set to start programs on a single click.

To double-click an object

  1. Move the pen a few millimeters above the surface of the slate to move the pointer on your display.

  2. When the pointer is where you want it, touch the pen to the surface of the slate twice in the same spot.

    This gesture starts programs if your operating system is set to start programs on a double-click.

To right-click an object

  1. Move the pen a few millimeters above the surface of the slate to move the pointer on your display.

  2. When the pointer is where you want it, touch the pen to the surface of the slate while pressing the pen’s upper rocker switch.

To move an object

  1. Move the pen a few millimeters above the surface of the slate to move the pointer on your display.

  2. When the pointer is where you want it, touch and hold the pen to the surface of the slate.

  3. Move the pen.

  4. When you reach the position you want to move the object to, release the pen.
