What’s new

SMART Education Software 2015 introduces a number of new features in the December release.

SMART Notebook 15.2 software

New Lesson Activity Builder (LAB) activities and themes

Two new Lesson Activity Builder activities have been added to LAB, including Speed Up and Label Reveal. With Speedup, students race against each other by answering questions. With Label Reveal, students progressively unmask descriptive labels of an object’s features.

Both text and images can be used with these activities (with the exception of Fill In the Blanks). This adds a new fun dimension to the activity. See Managing Lesson Activity Builder content. See Creating activities with Lesson Activity Builder .

As well, there are new LAB themes, including Knight and Dragon, Bees, and Simple theme.

New Shout It Out! features

This release of ShoutItOut! includes new teacher oriented features. For example, a student’s contribution can now be easily moved from one category to another. See Adding a Shout It Out! activity and Adding Student Contributions To A Shout It Out! Activity.

There are also student-side additions, including a device Home screen icon and a contextual numeric keyboard for entering numbers.

SMART kapp add-on

With the SMART kapp add-on, a kapp session can be integrated directly into Notebook 15.2. Visit www.smarttech.com for information on how to obtain the add-on.

YouTube™ add-on

The YouTube™ add-on allows you to safely search, preview and integrate YouTube content directly into Notebook 15.2.

SMART Ink plug-in for Adobe Reader

With the SMART Ink plug-in, you can write, draw and erase digital ink in PDF files. The plug-in inserts digital ink as comments, which allows you save the ink annotation to your PDF file. The ink will also scroll with the content of the PDF file.

SMART Ink 3.2 Improvements

SMART Ink 3.2 continues to delight with a new stamp tool, a toolbox, and quick access to your favorites.

New Stamp pad tool

The SMART Ink Stamp pad tool comes with ten standard stamps. In addition, you can create your own personal stamps (see Using the stamp pad). The stamps behave like ink, allowing you to select and drag the stamp, or erase them with the eraser.

You can use the stamp pad to reinforce ideas, correct student work, reward student achievements, and so on. You can manipulate and erase stamps like you do digital ink (see Manipulating digital ink and Erasing digital ink).

Toolbox

The SMART Ink 3.2 Toolbox on the SMART Ink toolbar keeps the SMART Ink toolbar clutter free, and you’ll have quick access to the Screen Capture, Text Input and Stamp Pad tools.

Quick Favourites

Your first four favorite pens will now display around the Ink toolbar, providing quick access.

SMART Ink 3.2 Improvements

Dynamic toolbar

SMART Ink 3.0 introduced a new dynamic toolbar for selecting pen options when writing or drawing in digital ink. For most SMART interactive products, the dynamic toolbar appears when you pick up one of the SMART interactive product’s pens and disappears when you return the pen. You can use the dynamic toolbar with any application on your computer, including SMART Notebook 15.2 software.

In SMART Ink 3.1 and 3.2, the dynamic toolbar appears as a circle rather than a horizontal bar when it’s minimized:

In addition, you can dock the dynamic toolbar to the left or right edge of the screen, close it by pushing it off of the screen and pin palettes so they remain open while you write or draw or complete other tasks.

For more information, see About the dynamic toolbar.

SMART Ink window tools

When you write or draw in a window, a SMART Ink window tools button appears in the window’s top-right corner. You can use this button to do the following:

SMART Ink Favourite Pens

If you frequently write or draw in the same color, width and style of digital ink, you can save those properties as a favorite pen.

For more information, see Using SMART Ink favorite pens.

SMART Touch Inking Tool

If your computer is connected to a SMART interactive product that supports touch recognition, you can use the SMART Touch Inking Tool to write or draw with your finger or an accessibility aid, such as a tennis ball.

For more information, see About the SMART Touch Inking Tool.

SMART Ink Settings window changes

SMART Ink 3.1 includes the following changes to the SMART Ink Settings window:

  • You can enable or disable the SMART Ink plug-in for PowerPoint from the SMART Ink Settings window.

  • You can show or hide the SMART Ink Toolbar for PowerPoint in presentation mode.

  • The Troubleshooting tab verifies that SMART Ink is on and that your computer is connected to a SMART interactive product.

  • When troubleshooting, you can enable any disabled SMART Ink plug-ins from the SMART Ink Settings window.

For more information, see Maintaining SMART Ink.
