Search
You can use SMART Keyboard to type text in a program.
You can also write in the SMART Keyboard Write view, and then convert your writing into typed text.
Note
SMART Keyboard is available in several views. When you start SMART Keyboard, it appears in the most recently used view. You can change the view at any time (see Changing the SMART Keyboard view).
Press the SMART Board icon in the notification area, and then select Keyboard.
Note
If your computer isn’t currently connected to an interactive product, the SMART Board icon is gray and includes an X in its lower-right corner.
Tip
You can also start SMART Keyboard by pressing the Keyboard button on the pen tray (on interactive whiteboards) or pressing the Keyboard function button (on interactive pen displays).
To type text directly into a program
Place the cursor where you want to enter text in the program.
If you haven’t done so already, start SMART Keyboard.
If SMART Keyboard includes a text editing area, press to close it.
Press the keys on SMART Keyboard.
To type text in SMART Keyboard, and then insert it into a program
Place the cursor where you want to enter text in the program.
If you haven’t done so already, start SMART Keyboard.
If SMART Keyboard doesn’t include a text editing area, press to display it.
Press the keys on SMART Keyboard.
The typed text appears in the text editing area.
You can edit text in the text editing area:
To replace a character in the text editing area, select it, and then press a SMART Keyboard key.
To insert an additional character in the text editing area, press the space between two characters so that a black triangle moves to indicate a new insertion point, and then press a SMART Keyboard key.
To remove a character, select it, and then press the backspace key.
After you have typed the string of characters, press Send.
To write text in digital ink, and then convert it to typed text in the program
Place the cursor where you want to enter text in the program.
If you haven’t done so already, start SMART Keyboard.
If SMART Keyboard doesn’t include a text editing area, press to display it.
Select Write in the list of views.
If you will be writing capital letters or numbers, select Capitals or Numbers to improve the accuracy of the text recognition.
Write in the lower half of SMART Keyboard.
SMART Keyboard converts your writing and displays it in the text editing area.
You can edit text in the text editing area:
To replace a character in the text editing area, select it, and then press a SMART Keyboard key.
To insert an additional character in the text editing area, press the space between two characters so that a black triangle moves to indicate a new insertion point, and then press a SMART Keyboard key.
To remove a character, select it, and then press the backspace key.
Press Send.
