Editing classes and participant lists

You can edit a class, such as adding or deleting students from a class. If you’re editing a class that you imported from Google Classroom, you have to edit the class in Google Classroom. If you are editing a class that you created in SMART amp, you can edit the class within the amp software.

Editing a class imported from Google Classroom

To edit or delete a class you imported from Google Classroom, open the class in Google Classroom. You can easily go to Google Classroom from within SMART amp.

  1. On your home page, classes imported from Google Classroom are indicated by the Google class icon . Tap the icon to open the class's dashboard.

    The class dashboard opens.

  2. Tap the View Class tab.

  3. Tap Edit Class.

    The Edit class window appears.

  4. Tap Delete Class.

    OR

    Tap Go to Google Classroom.

    The Google Classroom class page opens in a new tab.

  5. Make any edits you’d like, and then return to SMART amp software.

  6. Tap Close.

    The Updating imported class window opens and then closes when the update is complete. The View Class window refreshes.

  7. Notes 

    • Google Classroom automatically syncs with SMART amp software for a daily update.

    • You can add participants to the class list in Google Classroom and then update the imported class to SMART amp software in the following ways:
      • Wait for the Google Classroom automatic sync to occur.

      • In SMART amp software, open the imported class, and in the View Class tab, tap Update Class.

    • When you delete a class that you imported from Google Classroom, its class icon is removed from your SMART amp homepage.

    • Only the teacher who imported the class can delete it.

Editing a class created in SMART amp software

You can edit a class you created in SMART amp by changing its name, folder, or class code. You can also add or delete participants or delete a class entirely.

  1. On your home page, tap a class icon to select it and open the class’s dashboard.

    Note 

    • A class icon with a white background indicates a class that you created in SMART amp software.

  2. Tap the View Class tab.

  3. Tap Edit Class.

    The Edit a class window appears.

  4. Use the procedures described below to edit the class name, delete the class, change the class folder, or manage the participant list.

  5. After you've made all the edits you'd like, tap OK.

  1. Tap the View Class tab.

  2. Tap Edit Class.

    The Edit a class window appears.

  3. Tap inside the Class name box, delete the current name, and type the new class name.

    Note 

    If you change a class’s name, the class’s folder isn’t renamed automatically. You can rename the folder in your Google Drive.

ClosedTo change the class folder

  1. Tap Change beside the folder name.

    The Select folder window opens.

  2. Use the breadcrumb trail to browse and select the new folder.

    In this example, the current class folder is English 310- Period 5. Tap My Drive in the breadcrumb trail to select another folder within My Drive.

    Note 

    Tap to create a new folder if necessary.

  3. Select the checkbox beside the folder you'd like to use.

  4. Tap Select.

  5. Note 

    If the Same class folder as another class window appears, tap Select another folder to return to the Select folder window or tap Use this same folder to select this folder and return to the Edit class window.

ClosedTo delete a class from your home page

  1. Tap Delete Class under the class icon. You return to your home page.

    Important 

    1. Only the teacher who created the class can delete it.

ClosedTo add participants from your domain

  1. Add participants to your SMART amp class student list in one of the following ways:

    • Give participants the six-digit class code which they can use to join a class from their home page.

      Note 

      The class code remains the same until you reset it. You can share the code with participants so they can join the class at any time.

    • Tap the class code to open a QR code, and then ask participants to scan it with their devices.

    • Use participant’s email addresses to add them to the class:

      1. Type one or more participant email addresses, or copy and paste multiple email addresses into the Add members by email box.

      2. Tap Add.

        The participant’s email or name appears in the participants list.

      Notes 

      • SMART amp supports email addresses in SMTP format, for example, first.last<first.last@domain.com>.

      • Duplicate emails are removed automatically.

      • Email addresses that are correctly formatted and part of your registered domain or additional domains appear in black. Incorrectly formatted addresses or addresses that aren't part of your registered domain or additional domains appear in red.

      • Tap an address to edit it.

ClosedTo add participants from another domain

You can invite students and teachers from a different domain to your SMART amp class.

  1. Type the participant’s email address into the Add members by email box.

  2. Tap Add.

    The Are you sure? window opens.

  3. Click OK to confirm the email address.

    The participants email address appears in the participants list.

    Example 

    Jacob is a teacher in a school across the country and your class is collaborating with Jacob’s class on a class activity. You want to share a workspace with him. Add Jacob to your class’ participant list using his email. Then, share the workspace by following the steps provided in To share a workspace when connected or not connected to a class. See Sharing a workspace.

ClosedTo delete participants

  1. Select their name or email address in the participants’ list, and then tap to remove the name or address from the list.
